Background of the Study
Emergency care services are vital for addressing acute health conditions and preventing mortality. In Kebbi State, Nigeria, the healthcare system faces challenges such as limited resources, inadequate infrastructure, and a shortage of healthcare professionals. Nurse practitioners, with their advanced clinical skills and ability to provide comprehensive care, can play a significant role in enhancing emergency care services in this region.
Statement of the Problem
Kebbi State's emergency healthcare services are often strained due to a lack of qualified personnel and resources. The integration of NPs into emergency care could alleviate some of these challenges; however, their specific contributions and the impact of their involvement have not been systematically evaluated.
Objectives of the Study
1. To assess the roles and responsibilities of nurse practitioners in emergency care settings in Kebbi State.
2. To evaluate the impact of NPs on patient outcomes, service efficiency, and overall quality of emergency care.
3. To identify barriers and facilitators affecting the performance of NPs in emergency care services.
Research Questions
1. What specific roles do nurse practitioners fulfill in emergency care services in Kebbi State?
2. How do NPs influence patient outcomes and the efficiency of emergency care services?
3. What challenges and opportunities exist for optimizing the contributions of NPs in emergency care?
Research Hypotheses
1. Nurse practitioners significantly improve patient outcomes in emergency care settings in Kebbi State.
2. The involvement of NPs enhances the efficiency and quality of emergency care services.
3. Addressing identified barriers can further optimize the contributions of NPs in emergency care.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on healthcare facilities providing emergency services in Kebbi State, examining the roles and impact of nurse practitioners. Data collection methods will include interviews, direct observations, and analysis of patient records. Limitations may involve variability in NP roles across different facilities and potential challenges in accessing comprehensive data due to resource constraints.
